I only really knew Bobby as a little tike, but even then his love of the eccentric was present, his talent enormous and his love of family has always been evident. His brother Eddy was his stability. His Mom and Dad his rock. We have all gained by his presence and his love of and his contribution to the arts.

I lament my missed opportunity to get in the groove with Bobby while he was in Austin, but I am assuaged we are connected. Maybe time can weave sideways with invisible thread. Bobby took full advantage of his earth time to bridge a synapse of expression. Let's do the same, in whatever medium, to honor him.

This website is Epic. Big God Hugs to Aunt Jeannie, Uncle Tommy, sweet Cousin Eddy, and all the darling Bro Bro's.

Although I only got to be with you on two occassions, you certainly made my visits to Austin more enjoyable. I liked you the minute your mom introduced us and knew that you were my kind of person. You and your brother were so hospitable to me and I will always be grateful for having known such a loving, giving man.

I felt like I had known the Patterson family my whole life, due to our parents being old friends from Tech. When I moved to Lubbock in 1982, I remember going to the Pattersons house and meeting Bobby and his brother, and how they made me feel so welcomed to the Lubbock crowd. I remember his incredible talent in art and stage, and how he always gave me hugs every time we saw each other. Thank you for making me feel comfortable during a scarry time in my life. You will always be remembered for the kind things you did for people. xxooxxoo

Back in 1997 I had the privilege of being included in the Ozone Gallery roster of artists under the curation of Robert Ellis Patterson. "Bobby" was notorious for throwing some of the most well attended (and attractive) art openings in the city.

Ozone was located in a no-man's between Soho and Little Italy. Being just off the beaten path meant that the gallery was receptive to outsider artists of all kinds. East-Village punkers, Soho Eurotrash, oddball cartoonists, skateboard and graffiti artists, rockstar photographers and wackos of all kinds were well represented.

When Bobby gravitated back to Austin, Texas he, once again invited me to show my stuff and he put on a stellar party and show. For my accomodations during my stay in Austin, I was offered a flimsy air mattress to sleep on the floor of the gallery. But he later felt guilty and inisisted that he sleep on it instead of me. That's the kind of good-hearted character he was!

Besides his quick wit and a sarcastic sense of humor he had a genuine affection for people and a Warholian personality that attracted wildly different types to his circle. As one of the more dynamic and open guys that one would meet in this world, it's unfortunate that he left us so early.

My KISS attire is officially donned, and I even have a few candles lit as I sit here wondering how many lives Bob has touched - if not changed - for the best.

(I include myself in that group)

Bob, this is your day - happy 36th.

Happy Birthday my Brother….

Jackson Pollock once said about his art that “every painting had its own life” and if that’s true and I think it is; then Bobby’s life was one of the most beautiful paintings ever painted.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank so many for all your love and support honoring Bobby’s life. I can’t tell you enough how comforting it is to have such wonderful friends during this difficult time.

Today is a special day; to again, remember the impact Bobby’s life had on us all. Bobby was the most unique, wonderful, caring, and talented person I have ever known. We were blessed to have him in our lives.

I want to also thank Kirsten for her spirit, courage, and dedication. And Matt, thank you for this wonderful website so we can all can acknowledge and reflect on Bobby’s legacy. I especially want to thank my loving parents for my life that continues to be filled daily with their strength, compassion, and most of all love - what a wonderful gift.

For those interested in purchasing Bobby’s art, and I think a more appropriate word would be donation, will go towards creating a foundation in his name. The foundation will go towards inspiring, supporting, and touching other artists who may be in need. For those interested please contact me @ epatterson@stubbsbbq.com

I miss you my brother….Happy Birthday.

Love to you all,

Eddy

Bobby was born 36 years ago this date. Although too short we are thankful to have had him for that period of time. It is comforting for us to read the nice things you people have to say about our Son, as am sure many more to follow. Each of you , that knew Bobbby as a friend, are to be congratulated for helping to mold the genuine personality of this magnificent artist. I once had a coach that said, "play your hardest the entire game...leaving nothing on the field at the whistle." Bobby left nothing.

But.....We should all be as fortunate to have:
Friends like you...
A Lover like Kirsten...
A Brother like Eddy...
And a Mother like Jeannie...

I Love you and miss you Bob.......Dad.

Always an encourager, always a feeling of an energy barely contained, Robert was the first to consistently validate my own notion I'm on the right track. How does one say thanks now, except with a quiet, "thank you."

I had the pleasure of meeting Bobby after he opened Austin Modern. He was an intelligent and good natured human being as well as a great artist. I was fortunate to purchase one of his works and it has become the favorite in my collection. He will be greatly missed.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Bobby personally but my wife lovingly gave me one of his last pieces. Apparently hours were spent on the phone between Bobby and Gail and the result is Bobby's beautiful interpretation of "us." You can see Bobby standing next to our piece under the "Inspirational Abstract" link on this website. I can't begin to explain what the painting means to Gail and me. I can only hope Bobby can feel our appreciation and admiration for his genius. And Kirsten, a special thank you to you.

I was not aware of Robert Ellis Patterson until very recently but i can only say that I was privilaged to see his work on his site. I am taken back by the depth, meaning and aesthetic beauty that this collection communicates to me. Simply awsome.

I was too young to remember the first time we meet, maybe 3,4, 7 or 12. Growing up in Lubbock would not have been (don't laugh) kind of fun if not for him. As Kathy said, we could have fun in a cradboard box. Bobby, as well as others, taught us how. Bobby, as Wille wrote, you are my buddy, my pal and my friend. You will be always in my heart, wherever I take you.

“Amazing” does not do him justice. He started an art form - something completely new, special, unique - just like him. He was a master at everything creative - singing, dancing, acting, writing, painting.

His passion for life and for love was contagious. He lived every second of his life to its fullest. Bobby did everything with reckless abandon - fearing nothing, feeling everything, loving all.

I am blessed because I was loved by him; I am a better person because of him.

He was, is, and ever shall be the absolute love of my life.
